Episode 1: Hallway Transformation
Here at Coving Direct we love when customers send us in pictures of their projects. To help inspire you with your planned project we have decided to show them off! All the products used can be purchased using the links below.
This first project starts with a hallway in a standard semi-D house. As with most customer projects it was done on a budget but we think you will agree the final finish looks anything but “budget”.
The only things the customer removed were the radiators, furniture and skirting boards which were replaced with our 5” Torus Skirting.
Our ever popular Dado & Panel mouldings were used on the walls to great effect. This technique looks even better when different colours are used above and below the Dado Rail. The customer used our “Carver” profile as a strong Dado Rail running around the walls. As with all our products it is fixed using our Eurocoll Plus adhesive at the standard one third wall height position.
Then decide the size of panels you would like underneath the dado. It helps to line out your plan on the wall with pencil and square. That way you can position everything correctly around sockets, light switches etc. This customer decided to have just a single panel on each section of the hallway walls. I think this worked well on this occasion as there are a lot of corners and sections between doors etc. As well as using the “Tulip” profile to create the panel they strengthened the “panel” look by adding a second inner strip which was “Dante”. The addition of this inner strip works particularly well when making larger panels.
The original architraves and “flush finish” doors were also kept but transformed into panelled doors by simply fixing our “Tulip” profile in two rectangular squares to them. This look required only four lengths of Tulip. The old door handles were also replaced with something a little more detailed with a matt silver finish. I think the transformation of these doors for so little outlay is impressive!
The customer chose a contemporary colour scheme of greys, silver and white. The tiled floors were laid over with laminate flooring in silver/grey complimenting the light grey finish of the upper walls. The floor was then contrasted with a blue/grey patterned floor runner mat.
The panelled sections of the walls were painted white and this gives a stronger “panelled” effect. Doors, architrave and skirting were also finished in white.
This is a fine example of just what can be done with Coving Directs range of products. For me though the stand out item of this hallway transformation has to be that radiator! It was inspired to have what would usually be a boring and drab necessity in a room and make it the signature piece. Brilliant!
