Installing Wood Panelling On Walls

Panelled walls are quite possibly one the most impressive and beautiful additions to a house. The main styles of panelling are Wainscoting, Frame & Panel and the ornate and beautiful Boiserie.

“Wainscoting” is the general term used for panelling fitted between the Dado rail and the Skirting Board.

“Frame & Panel” is the term used for panelling that covers from floor to ceiling.

“Boiserie” is the term used for large squares of panelling often with the inside of the square papered or painted to differentiate the walls.

All of these styles can be created using our panel mouldings fixed directly to the blank wall. These Panel mouldings are very versatile allowing you to tailor make the panels to fit the area you want to cover in the style you want to create.

They are made from our patented Polyforce® material. Polyforce® mouldings are both impact and water resistant. They are also very stable when fixed meaning there will be no movement or joint splits as can sometimes happen with MDF profiles.

Our panel mouldings are very easy to install. You simply fix them directly onto the surface of the wall using our Eurocoll Plus adhesive.

We would also advise fixing the mouldings with some carpenters tacks in order to keep them in position while waiting for the adhesive to cure. You can then remove the tacks or drive them in completely.

INSTALLATION

The most important part of creating your wall panelling is the preparation. Make a plan of how you want the panels to look and with a pencil and spirit level mark out lines on the wall corresponding to the plan. Lining out the walls allows you to adjust for any unforeseen obstacles such as light switches or wall sockets. Then simply fix the panel mouldings to the wall along the lines you have marked out. It really is that easy!

FINISHING

Once everything is in place and the Eurocoll Plus adhesive has cured you can then start painting. There are lots of options as to how you can finish the panelled walls. For example painting just the mouldings a different shade/ colour to the wall. Painting the inside perimeter of each panel a different colour to the outside. Our favourite technique is wall papering the inside of the panels. This creates a stunning look.

Take a look at our range of skirting boards to finish off the look. They are also made from Polyforce® just like our Panel mouldings.
